The Sundry Uses of Fuzzy Logic

An interview with James Keller, Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science

James M. Keller, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been engaged in interdisciplinary and collaborative research throughout his career. Currently, he is working on a project that draws upon the latest technological advances to improve elder care with a team led by fellow electrical and computer engineer Marjorie Skubic and a group of people from MU’s Schools of Nursing, Social Work, Health Management and Informatics, Physical Therapy, and Engineering, along with colleagues from the Medical Automation Research Center (MARC) at the University of Virginia.

The Size of the Future

An interview with Shubhra Gangopadhyay, Professor, Electrical & Computer Engineering

Shubhra Gangopadhyay is the one of the few female faculty at MU’s Center for Micro/Nano Systems and Nanotechnology. She’s also the one in charge of developing the center. In the Electrical and Computer Engineering department, of which Gangopadhyay is the LaPierre Endowed Chair Professor, she is one of three women. “There is a shortage of female scientists and female professors, in general,” Gangopadhyay says. “And in engineering, it is really not good.”

Telling the Story of Computer Engineering

An interview with Alina Zare, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Engineers are problem solvers. They seek out problems, analyze them, and work to create logical, lasting solutions. Alina Zare, Assistant Professor in MU’s Electrical and Computer Engineering department, has spent the last few years solving the problem of how to get computers to learn from data – and, more ambitiously, how to get them to learn from uncertain or unclear data.
